This position is responsible for working in coordination with all appropriate personnel from maintenance, engineering, technical service, quality and research and development departments within Silgan Closures. In addition to supporting the production team this individual will be responsible for automating any and all measurement processes. The Quality Assurance Engineer must be able to accurately defend conclusions and support findings with data. This position reports to the plant QA Manager.What you'll do:Using statistical tools (e.g., process capability, Design of Experiments, SPC, etc.) assist manufacturing and suppliers in evaluation and optimization of manufacturing processes and products.Perform part inspection utilizing the appropriate tools and equipment. Create reports summarizing results and methods utilized.Define and execute the requirements for gauging and inspection methods for instruments utilized with frequency in the lab.Assist in the maintenance and calibration of QA lab equipment.Assist in the maintenance of SQF Quality Systems.Assist problem solving efforts and projects as required by the Plant QA Manager.Automate quality inspection processes to reduce manual intervention.Participates in continuous improvement activities.Actively works in and manages facility processes with relation to OEM systems and Product Hold For Inspection (HFI) inventory as needed.Performs other essential functions in the quality department as directed.Will provide appropriate leadership and accountability for managing the Quality department, including all laboratory activities and requirements. Ensures that effective and applicable testing and inspection protocols are implemented, challenged and verified for all primary and secondary process within the overall manufacturing process. Utilizes advanced level of problem-solving skills to develop creative solutions. This position will work in a collaborative manner with the appropriate departments to affect positive change to systems that incorporate solutions that are repeatable, reliable and sustainable. Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to plant management. Prepares reports to communicate results of quality assurance activities. Exhibits energetic, hands on, plant floor "bias for action" approach.
